Squad lists released for intraclub match sim

The Kiama Power will kick off their pre-season campaign this Thursday when the men’s squad host an intraclub match simulation. Held from 6:00pm at Bonaira Oval, it will be the first opportunity for supporters to see our new recruits in action, as well as the return of senior players.

Excitingly last year’s Rising Star Tom Wallace has been named in Team Black alongside the returning former club captain Lachlan Kirk. Fan favourites Josh Simpson, Josh Walton and cult hero Jayden Andrews are also expected to hit the track across four quarters.

Seniors social calendar confirmed

It’s confirmed – the club’s booming social scene will see it’s momentum swing into 2025, with exciting events planned alongside the AFL South Coast Season fixture.

The senior club will host it’s Season Launch event at our Bonaira Oval clubhouse on Saturday March 29th, just seven days ahead of the opening round. The afternoon will include the 2025 guernsey presentation, addresses from coaches and captains and a chance to win prizes in the $1,000 draw.

A fortnight later, Family Day is set to take over Bonaira Oval on April 12th, as the Power host Figtree in all three grades in a pivotal litmus test to gauge how our sides have progressed after a long, gruelling pre-season. The day will also serve as a fundraiser for Heart Research Australia – and the research fund in memory of the late Darren Williams, Life Member of Kiama Power.

Sir Doug Nicholls Round returns to Bonaira Oval on May 24th, with the club hosting Shellharbour (Men’s Prem’s), Northern Districts (Women’s Prem’s) and Ulladulla (Men’s Reserves), in what shapes to be a wonderful day celebrating indigenous culture and impact in football and the wider community.

Bonaira Oval will host Sponsors Day on June 21st, which promises to be a fun day at the football with food and beverage catering for our growing list of partners that have supported the club this season.

An all-round favourite event last season, Ladies Day, returns on July 19th as the club hosts the Wollongong Lions in three games of football. Expect a lot of cheese and bubbles on the day for all the wonderful women involved with our club.

Old Boys Day was a highlight of season 2024, with the Men’s Premier Division team posting their only win of the season on this day, however for some it was such a momentous day that it ranked as a runner-up favourite memory to premiership wins. The event is scheduled to take place on August 16th during the last round of the season – not even Scott Phillips’ wedding could get in the way of this!

Finally, we will conclude the year with our annual Presentation Evening on Friday, September 19th at the Kiama Leagues Club. With over 100 of our Power family in attendance last season, we’re sure this year will be even bigger!

Back-to-back home games to kick off 2025

After a season of growth in player participation and record attendance at our 2024 presentation evening, we’re excited to welcome the fixture for the 2025 Seniors Season, announced on Friday by AFL South Coast.

We’re kicking things off with two home games at Bonaira Oval starting with our women’s and reserve’s teams hosting Bomaderry and Bay & Basin on Saturday, April 5, whilst our men’s first team have the bye.

The following Saturday we’ll be back at Bonaira for a day full of fun, as we host Figtree in all three grades for our Family Day and Heart Reearch Australia Fundraiser.

Cross-town rivalries will be reignited when the Minnamurra River Derby begins another chapter at Bonaira in Round 6, when the Shellharbour Suns head south for a Premier Division clash during Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

Sponsors Day returns to Kiama in Round 9 as both men’s sides host Northern Districts, with the Lions making the trip down the Princes Highway to go head-to-head with our women.

After the undeniable success of Ladies Day in 2024, the much-loved social event returns in Round 13 when we host the Wollongong Lions in all three grades.

The season will conclude with Old Boys Day in Round 17 against long-time rivals, Bomaderry.

Kiama Power Senior Club President Dirk Ovenden said there’s a lot to look forward to in the year ahead.

“Commencing the season at Bonaira with back-to-back home games is a great reward for our players and supporters who brought plenty of energy to our home games last year, and we’re thrilled that AFL South Coast has committed to working with us to secure our key social dates,” Ovenden said.

“We’ve got some terrific days organised against the likes of Figtree, Norths, Lions and Bomaderry, including the opportunity to host Sir Doug Nicholls Round with three visiting clubs being represented at Bonaira Oval.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors who have already committed to the club this season. We are working hard to ensure you get the best access and the best experience, so keep an eye on your inbox as we will have announcements on some exciting news and events in the months ahead.”

Kirk coming home

The club can confirm 24-year-old former captain and 2018 premiership player, Lachlan Kirk, has committed to a return that will see him pull on the Power guernsey for the first time since 2022.

The 2020 first grade club Best & Fairest player has spent the past two seasons in Adelaide, winning a premiership with the Henley Sharks last year.

Kiama Power President Dirk Ovenden said, “It’s exciting for the club – both the seniors and juniors – to see the return of a player who started Auskick here at only four-years-old.

“For Lachlan to then go on to winning a first grade premiership, play rep footy and become club captain – it’s a great example and pathway that we are trying to highlight at the moment.”

Kiama Power Head Coach Sam Hodges said, “We’re thrilled to have Kirky back home where he belongs.

“To have a proven player of his calibre, who has also been an admirable leader amongst our playing group in the past, is massive for the club.”

Aussie hockey star Fowles joins Power

We are thrilled to welcome Australian hockey rep, Imogen Fowles, to the Kiama Power for season 2025.

Imogen is an elite athlete with an extensive background in indoor and outdoor hockey – including six international caps for Australia and recently returning from playing in Vienna with Post SV in the professional Austrian premier league.

Fowles has opted to take a break from the outdoor hockey season in 2025 and try her hand at AFL with the Power, before she returns to her indoor hockey duties with the Australian squad at the end of the year.

A two-time winner of the Illawarra Academy of Sport’s Hockey Athlete of the Year, Fowles has proven that she is a dedicated and hardworking athlete that continually seeks to improve her skills – which we have already witnessed at our pre-season training sessions as Imogen quickly picks up the skills of our game and displays a natural flair.

We are confident that Imogen’s work ethic will be beneficial on the AFL field, as she arrives with a natural sense to read play and an ability to contest the ball with repeated tough efforts.

NSW Community Club of the Year Finalist

We’re incredibly proud and honoured to confirm that Kiama Power is one of the six finalists vying for the title of NSW Community Club of the Year in the 2019 NSW Community Sports Awards.

To illustrate the significance of this, these awards traverse all community sporting clubs in NSW with this years other finalists coming from surf life saving, judo, motorsports, rugby union and basketball.

The presentation ceremony is to be hosted by the NSW Minister for Sport at NSW Parliament House at 6.00pm on Thursday 20 June 2019 where the winner will be revealed.

Regardless of whether we win or not, it’s a remarkable achievement to make the final six and a testament to the dedication of all those volunteers in both our Junior and Senior Clubs who make it possible for our kids to play football and who make our Club what it is.

We thank AFL NSW / ACT who, unbeknown to the Club, initiated and supported the nomination.
