Power sign Jack Eastwood

The Power are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder/forward Jack Eastwood for the 2025 season.

The 24-year-old joins the Power after playing 51 games in South Australia’s Southern Football League over the past seven seasons with the Christies Beach Saints and Morphett Vale Emus, along with stints at UTS Bats (NSW), Meadows Bulldogs (SA) and Waratah Warriors (NT).

The Morphett Vale junior brings further experience and talent into Kiama’s roster for 2025, with Eastwood joining Navy representative teammates Odin Brown, Luke Vallence and Max Whiticker at the South Coast club.

Kiama Power assistant coach Sean Byrne, who is also Jack’s head coach in the Navy football program, was ecstatic to hear that Eastwood had agreed to join Kiama this season.

“Easty certainly fits the bill. With his clean skills and experience he will add plenty of value to our playing list as well as help to mentor our emerging crop of mids and forwards.”

Eastwood played in Kiama’s match simulation against Googong in the pre-season, and will be available for selection in May.

Maddison Aitkin joins from UTS Bats

The Kiama Power are thrilled to announce the signing of Maddison Aitkin from the UTS Bats, further adding to what could potentially be one of the best midfield groups in the AFL South Coast women’s competition this season.

Aitkin recently represented the Royal Australian Navy at the Australian Defence Force games in Melbourne, having also been twice selected in the ADF All Star team.

Maddison joins us after playing a full season of AFL Sydney Premier Division with the UTS Bats in 2024, continuing her form from the previous season in Victoria which saw her named as Cerberus’ Best & Fairest player in a premiership-winning team and was also named in the South Eastern Women’s League’s team of the year.

Aitkin played a starring role in the Power’s huge pre-season win last Saturday in Queanbeyan, noting how comfortable she felt pulling on the Power guernsey for the first time.

“The team was extremely welcoming and the vibe around the club is incredible,” Maddison said after the game.

Kiama set for pre-season hit-out

The Kiama Power continue their pre-season campaign tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Queanbeyan to meet Googong for match simulation.

Club veterans Michael Williams and Josh Walton will make the trip down the Hume Highway, along with Navy representatives Odin Brown and Max Whiticker after their win against the Army earlier in the week in Melbourne.

The women’s squad will look to continue their momentum after putting a margin on Bateman’s Bay, with all 21 available players selected to play.

The women’s match will begin at 12pm at Brad Haddin Oval, before the men take the field at 2pm.

The women’s game will kick off proceedings for the day at 12pm, before the men’s team take the field at 2pm.

Power trio earn Navy call-ups

The Kiama Power would like to congratulate Odin Brown, Luke Vallence and Max Whiticker, alongside men’s assistant coach Sean Byrne, on their selection to represent the Royal Australian Navy at the 2025 Australian Defence Force Australian Rules Football Carnival in Melbourne.

The Navy squad consists of serviceman from all over Australia who have arrived in camp at HMAS Cerberus over the weekend, as they begin their week-long preparations for the 40th anniversary of the ADF carnival when it begins this Friday.

Brown, Vallence and Whiticker will take the field for the Navy across the weekend, with Kiama Power assistant coach Sean Byrne appointed to the head coaching position.

Byrne is excited for Kiama to have a big presence within the camp following a huge pre-season for the club which has seen an increase in players at training and the acquisition of key recruits, creating a lot of optimism in Kiama ahead of the AFL South Coast season.

“The Power boys are bringing a lot of energy into the Navy squad, which is important in a short format like this,” coach Byrne said.

“Connection is a key indicator into how well the team will go during the carnival and our boys in Whits, Odin and Val definitely bring that.”

New Kiama recruit Luke Vallance made an instant impression in the Navy camp when he finished equal-first place during the Navy’s endurance testing, after completing a community engagement park run earlier that morning where he finished the 5km course in only 18 minutes.

The ADF carnival will see the Navy face off with the Army on Friday 14th and Monday 17th March in their two-game series for the Jimmy Smail Cup, with former AFL umpire Ray Chamberlain appointed to officiate the fixture.

Squad lists released for intraclub match sim

The Kiama Power will kick off their pre-season campaign this Thursday when the men’s squad host an intraclub match simulation. Held from 6:00pm at Bonaira Oval, it will be the first opportunity for supporters to see our new recruits in action, as well as the return of senior players.

Excitingly last year’s Rising Star Tom Wallace has been named in Team Black alongside the returning former club captain Lachlan Kirk. Fan favourites Josh Simpson, Josh Walton and cult hero Jayden Andrews are also expected to hit the track across four quarters.

Seniors social calendar confirmed

It’s confirmed – the club’s booming social scene will see it’s momentum swing into 2025, with exciting events planned alongside the AFL South Coast Season fixture.

The senior club will host it’s Season Launch event at our Bonaira Oval clubhouse on Saturday March 29th, just seven days ahead of the opening round. The afternoon will include the 2025 guernsey presentation, addresses from coaches and captains and a chance to win prizes in the $1,000 draw.

A fortnight later, Family Day is set to take over Bonaira Oval on April 12th, as the Power host Figtree in all three grades in a pivotal litmus test to gauge how our sides have progressed after a long, gruelling pre-season. The day will also serve as a fundraiser for Heart Research Australia – and the research fund in memory of the late Darren Williams, Life Member of Kiama Power.

Sir Doug Nicholls Round returns to Bonaira Oval on May 24th, with the club hosting Shellharbour (Men’s Prem’s), Northern Districts (Women’s Prem’s) and Ulladulla (Men’s Reserves), in what shapes to be a wonderful day celebrating indigenous culture and impact in football and the wider community.

Bonaira Oval will host Sponsors Day on June 21st, which promises to be a fun day at the football with food and beverage catering for our growing list of partners that have supported the club this season.

An all-round favourite event last season, Ladies Day, returns on July 19th as the club hosts the Wollongong Lions in three games of football. Expect a lot of cheese and bubbles on the day for all the wonderful women involved with our club.

Old Boys Day was a highlight of season 2024, with the Men’s Premier Division team posting their only win of the season on this day, however for some it was such a momentous day that it ranked as a runner-up favourite memory to premiership wins. The event is scheduled to take place on August 16th during the last round of the season – not even Scott Phillips’ wedding could get in the way of this!

Finally, we will conclude the year with our annual Presentation Evening on Friday, September 19th at the Kiama Leagues Club. With over 100 of our Power family in attendance last season, we’re sure this year will be even bigger!

Back-to-back home games to kick off 2025

After a season of growth in player participation and record attendance at our 2024 presentation evening, we’re excited to welcome the fixture for the 2025 Seniors Season, announced on Friday by AFL South Coast.

We’re kicking things off with two home games at Bonaira Oval starting with our women’s and reserve’s teams hosting Bomaderry and Bay & Basin on Saturday, April 5, whilst our men’s first team have the bye.

The following Saturday we’ll be back at Bonaira for a day full of fun, as we host Figtree in all three grades for our Family Day and Heart Reearch Australia Fundraiser.

Cross-town rivalries will be reignited when the Minnamurra River Derby begins another chapter at Bonaira in Round 6, when the Shellharbour Suns head south for a Premier Division clash during Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

Sponsors Day returns to Kiama in Round 9 as both men’s sides host Northern Districts, with the Lions making the trip down the Princes Highway to go head-to-head with our women.

After the undeniable success of Ladies Day in 2024, the much-loved social event returns in Round 13 when we host the Wollongong Lions in all three grades.

The season will conclude with Old Boys Day in Round 17 against long-time rivals, Bomaderry.

Kiama Power Senior Club President Dirk Ovenden said there’s a lot to look forward to in the year ahead.

“Commencing the season at Bonaira with back-to-back home games is a great reward for our players and supporters who brought plenty of energy to our home games last year, and we’re thrilled that AFL South Coast has committed to working with us to secure our key social dates,” Ovenden said.

“We’ve got some terrific days organised against the likes of Figtree, Norths, Lions and Bomaderry, including the opportunity to host Sir Doug Nicholls Round with three visiting clubs being represented at Bonaira Oval.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors who have already committed to the club this season. We are working hard to ensure you get the best access and the best experience, so keep an eye on your inbox as we will have announcements on some exciting news and events in the months ahead.”

Kirk coming home

The club can confirm 24-year-old former captain and 2018 premiership player, Lachlan Kirk, has committed to a return that will see him pull on the Power guernsey for the first time since 2022.

The 2020 first grade club Best & Fairest player has spent the past two seasons in Adelaide, winning a premiership with the Henley Sharks last year.

Kiama Power President Dirk Ovenden said, “It’s exciting for the club – both the seniors and juniors – to see the return of a player who started Auskick here at only four-years-old.

“For Lachlan to then go on to winning a first grade premiership, play rep footy and become club captain – it’s a great example and pathway that we are trying to highlight at the moment.”

Kiama Power Head Coach Sam Hodges said, “We’re thrilled to have Kirky back home where he belongs.

“To have a proven player of his calibre, who has also been an admirable leader amongst our playing group in the past, is massive for the club.”

Aussie hockey star Fowles joins Power

We are thrilled to welcome Australian hockey rep, Imogen Fowles, to the Kiama Power for season 2025.

Imogen is an elite athlete with an extensive background in indoor and outdoor hockey – including six international caps for Australia and recently returning from playing in Vienna with Post SV in the professional Austrian premier league.

Fowles has opted to take a break from the outdoor hockey season in 2025 and try her hand at AFL with the Power, before she returns to her indoor hockey duties with the Australian squad at the end of the year.

A two-time winner of the Illawarra Academy of Sport’s Hockey Athlete of the Year, Fowles has proven that she is a dedicated and hardworking athlete that continually seeks to improve her skills – which we have already witnessed at our pre-season training sessions as Imogen quickly picks up the skills of our game and displays a natural flair.

We are confident that Imogen’s work ethic will be beneficial on the AFL field, as she arrives with a natural sense to read play and an ability to contest the ball with repeated tough efforts.
