Kiama’s defense was pivotal in recording the women team’s first win of the season, defeating a gallant Bomaderry by 21 points on Saturday afternoon.
It was great reward for new coach Arthur Chilcott, as he debuted three key recruits, to record the 3.10 (28) to 1.1 (7) victory in front of a strong contingent of Power supporters at Bonaira Oval.
Imogen Fowles was the star for the Power in her first official game of Australian rules football, wreaking havoc with the ball in hand and constantly applying tackle pressure to cause multiple turnovers.
With former Murray Bushranger Teneale Keene dominating the ruck contest and ADF All Star midfielder Maddison Aitkin providing vital run and carry around the contest, the Power were able to kick three goals in the first half and constantly pepper the Tigers’ backline with continuous threats.
The Power’s backline, headed by Laura Kent and Jade Quigley, were able to repel most chances from Bomaderry that came their way, not conceding any points until the fourth quarter.
