Junior Teams

Auskick is for boys and girls aged between 4 to 8. Auskick is designed to teach kids the basics of Australian Rules football in a fun and safe environment. Auskickers have one fun “training” session each week and then play an Auskick modified rules game against an opposition team on a Sunday.

Some boys and girls aged 7 or 8 may be eligible to play in the U9s competition depending on their ability to meet the demands of playing at that next level.

Junior Competition

The junior competition involves teams in U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s and U17s. In 2018, it will also include U12s Girls (see next section).

The U9’s do not play for points and scores are not recorded or registered. Its intended to be a stepping stone between Auskick and U11’s which is the first age group that plays for competition points and has finals.

The U9’s, U11’s and U13’s all play in the Illawarra competition. This includes teams from:

  • Kiama
  • Albion Park
  • Shellharbour
  • Port Kembla
  • Figtree
  • Wollongong
  • Northern Districts
  • Southern Highlands

The U15’s and U17’s will play in a South Coast competition made up of teams from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Leagues. The Shoalhaven League includes teams from:

  • Batemans Bay
  • Bay and Basin
  • Bomaderry
  • Nowra
  • Ulladulla

Not all Clubs have teams in every age group so its not always possible for all our teams to be at the same venue or playing the same opposition team. Kiama Power often has multiple teams in more than one age group. These teams are occasionally drawn to compete against each other, and these are always great occasions to savor for the club, players, parents and spectators.

Junior Girls

Starting in 2018, the AFL Illawarra Juniors will be introducing an U12s girls competition. This is aimed at girls who are turning 9 to 12 years of age in that year. It will be a 10 week season commencing around the end of April / early May. To ensure the focus is on fun and learning, in its inaugural year games will not be played for competition points and there will be no finals. Teams will generally be made up or nine players on the field and two or three reserves. Kiama Power will be entering at least one girls team in this competition. For more information click here. Girls will still be eligible to also play in other appropriate Junior age groups with the boys.

Age Eligibility

The eligibility of a player for a particular age group is based on the player’s age at the commencement of the calendar year. For example, if a player is 8 years old at 1 January, he / she is eligible to play U9s. If a player is 9 years old at 1 January, he / she is eligible to play U11’s.
